Rodwell Jan 7 Final Draft Good evening, Councilmembers and members of the public. My name is Julie Rodwell, 9920 Main Street, Boulevard Place, Bothell and I moved here in July of 2019. My background is economics, urban planning and transportation. My baby daughter used to go to daycare in Bothell; she's now 39 so that was a lot of years ago! The new Bothell was a great and wonderful surprise when I returned last year. We at Boulevard Place are excited to be neighbors of the "Bothell Gateway" and look forward to collaborating closely with the City and your chosen developers as plans take shape. I attended the September 10, 2019 Council meeting at which an architectural visioning for downtown was presented. It was mentioned there, that the ideas came from an earlier Council meeting - with the 7 councilmembers and 12 members of the public. Lot or Block D is literally The Development on our Doorstep. We, and quite a few other residents of central Bothell weren't around when the downtown plan was adopted in 2009, but we are going to be very significantly affected by what happens here. I counted over a dozen downtown Bothell condos and apartments that have opened Julie F. Rodwell 360-972-6688 julie@julierodwell.org since then. This is thousands of new residents. After the September 10 meeting, I wrote to your City Manager and Council to let you know that the residents of Boulevard Place are keenly interested in a public engagement process on the development. The meeting minutes support that idea, as did the City manager's warm response to me. The meeting minutes say: ....Council consensus was to see more public input for the designs. City Manager Jennifer Phillips stated that plans are being made for public engagement to be part of the gateway property development process. I guess I expected a flyer in the mail with a link to a survey, or an invitation to a public meeting (similar to what Ecology did last July regarding downtown Bothell site remediation). Aa 5 -person Development on Our Doorstep team at Boulevard Place are working with City staff to arrange a briefing for our building. But that should not replace an area -wide public engagement process, as was promised in September. We look forward to learning more. Given that your developer solicitation closes January 31, time is clearly of the essence! Thank you Julie F.
